There are many competitions held throughout Scotland. Scottish dances like the Highland Fling are among them. Back in the days only men were dancing this but nowadays all are welcome to perform this amazing Fling dance. The most generally renowned history of the ‘Fling’ is it is a movement of party, performed after triumph in conflict. The dance was performed by clansmen a ring-shaped shield on a little round Targe, with the front and the back in sheepskin or deer. The Targe was powerful enough to resist the push of a bayonet, and weighed about five pounds. The shield’s front generally had a long spike in the heart, and was styled with brass studs and plates. Nimble footwork agility, and power power enabled the dancer to avoid the sudden spike, which frequently projected five to six inches. Another description of the beginning is as follows: the Fling may have been an early fertility dance, and may go back to the first centuries AD. The supporting evidence is the raised hands, signifying a ‘stag’, an early sign. An identical interpretation implies a fruitful stag hunt is feasted by the dance. In reality, the foot that was working was not unlikely ‘flung’ around another leg. The dance is danced to stirring pipe music including Orange, Monymusk and Blue, or some other appropriate strathspey, a melody in 4/4 time. The strathspey is believed to derive songs or melodies to which Highland girls beat on pee, and is reported to be distinctive to Scotland -soaked tartan fabric to ensure it is air-tight against the air.
